Did you ever meet a famous person? Our students need to read stories of successful people who learn from mistakes and are determined never to make the same mistake twice.
The best part of assigning this kind of writing is that the end results are much more fun to grade. Even content-rich projects can be inefficient in terms of time spent. Write about making mistakes. Did you ever know someone who had "everything"?
Three goals I have set for myself are One idea is to provide students with physical assignment handouts, in addition to or instead of a simple description in a syllabus.
For instance, if you are asking all of your students to use the same resource, ensure that there are enough copies available for all students to access — or at least put one copy on reserve in the library.
